Good to see you again, in whatever form.

As I see the toxicity of social media I sometimes long for the BBS of my youth, but then I remember more than one of them imploded due to toxic people. Don't know how we can keep the assholes out, they always seem to creep in.

Keep your chin up. You've already won at life, enjoy it.

Glad to see you back here writing! I hope its as therapeutic as all fuck for ya, keep it comin!

As far as an essay, not sure if you even want to talk games, but the whole xbox endeavor seems to be the most interesting thing happening in this space right now…where do you see it all going?

All my best to you and your family!

The Xbox endeavor is, by far, the most interesting thing happening in games and is why there's not enough for discussion these days. Having said that I do see a strong, unifying theme between RDR2 and the original Point Break movie, might have to expand on that observation.

Yes I feel like there aren’t nearly as many RDR2 thematic evaluations as there should be. Looking forward to it!

he didn’t keep it coming, most likely due to being an alcoholic drug addict. Imagine being such a pathetic failure in life you can’t even keep up writing some shitty blog used to cry about all your friends leaving you because you support genocide and apartheid

This was a surprise in my inbox I didn’t know I needed. Very much enjoyed reading this and also echo your bewilderment at the interweb’s collective “opinions” on Israel/Hamas. It’s almost like uncontrollable but incredibly accurate algorithms control the distribution of information and create factions of like minded individuals who are powerless to think outside of what is presented on their screen. But that would be crazy talk, right?

Adam Sessler's avatar

that sounds stupid sci-fi crazy. Be careful who you're around talking that crazy nonsense.

Actually it’s almost like the first era of the nazi colony known as Israel’s existence where people don’t only have access to Zionist controlled media is the one where people realize it needs to be dismantled like Apartheid South Africa and Rhodesia. When all you had were genocidal Jewish supremacists like Jake Tapper telling you that Israel is just a poor itty wittle democracy fighting against the odds, no wonder all the boomers in this country are brainwashed. Luckily the vast majority of this country’s future knows Israel must go. And that is exactly what will happen.

What a pleasant surprise getting this in my inbox today. I am always up for thoughts from you whether it’s this way or the times we chatted on sites. I am glad you tried to do something to help your mental health I hope it works for you.

Quick thought there is a short daily podcast called What A day that is a news show that covers major news but also covers a lot of diverse topics as well might be worth giving it a try.

Happy to hear from you again. I not only missed you, but I also missed reading something new on The Internet that didn't consist of faux-neutral journalistic phrasing or self righteous claptrap with the subtlety of an eighth grade cheer squad (complete with handclap emojis.) Glad to see you writing again, and I really do hope you've been faring well after ditching socials.

Also not really sure of anything that automates it fully, but Premiere Pro has an auto-captions mode that will just take everything and put it into text for you, and through there you can adjust how it appears from the video. Takes a little work, but it's not too painstaking.

Adam, I've been watching your content for a long time.

Your political talk about about anti censorship when I was young introduced me to so much. I grew up in a situation where I was given nothing. Only a Sega Genesis and eventually a N64. The bare minimum to keep me engaged and living. I wasn't provided meals, or any discussion of any kind. No assistance in my consistently failing school work. Their apathy in discipline left me with many missed days, lost information which left me further behind without too many understandings of fundamentals.

But with all that I had good support from some people who were able to see through my situation. I recall one point in high school or possibly late junior high school having to write an essay on who I looked up to most or who most inspired me. Someone you would likely choose a brother or father, I chose you since you opened my mind to so many concepts, although I wasn't at that point able to articulate as such.

Around the same time I was given access to broadband Internet and a computer in my room. I learned many things on the internet. I had many misconceptions, misunderstandings, wrung out of me over time through discussions with people online.

Part of this self raising through internet i learned many things about hatred. I cleaned myself of immature and religiously installed hatred of "gay people". I learned about racism. At one point I recall myself totally gobbsmacked that you could find actual people proudly hosting KKK affiliated churches online.

I recall reaching out through email to spray hatred at them. Pure disgust, they responded back "kindly". I spewed more hatred at them and trying to make them understand their mistakes. Youthful ignorance on my part to think those sorts of things could be changed. People rarely change. I eventually gave up and understood not to bother arguing in such a way. It's a waste of my time.

Sorry I realize this is off topic a bit, but much later I found a video that describes some concepts that lined up with my experience growing up "on the internet". It talked about how a lot of the places similar to the places I interacted with actually had some built in dog whistles, tricks to spread hatred organically. Some of the content I enjoyed at the time, had hatred in it, veiled as sarcasm, or just so bald face off-putting, that saying the joke was supposed to be making fun of those who actually thought that stuff.

Some of this was indoctrination. I recall one strange joke on a list of funny irc conversations. A top ten list in some form. My friends would quote many of them over and over. Some are still quite funny and just absurd clean humor. Maybe Hunter2 might mean something to you? Sorry, maybe not...

One of the jokes which me and my friends would recite, junior high, high school times, I don't think I ever fully got. It was in truth a very nasty joke with obvious hatred built in. I hadn't quoted it and stopped thinking about for many years, at the time I thought I just couldn't find the right comedic timing to get the joke across. Much later on I went back and saw the heiness hate it in. It just feels perverse. I felt used, being a young idiot just reciting what I thought was humor, was actually just a step towards hate.

That joke still exists, was still towards the top of that list. Maybe for most people reading that joke they are genuine. Maybe they did actually hate those people and had different kinds of high fives when quoting that joke. I'm not sure, I hope I've never met that person.

Anyways, your discourse from long ago greatly influenced me. Four years ago I did a write in, vote I remember how much you spoke about Hilary Clinton. I hated her, I hated Tipper Gore, I hated Joe Leiberman, I hated Jack Thompson. I hated censorship. Now being a father, my feelings have expanded on the matter, but it's a bit besides the point. I didn't vote for Hilary. I would rather throw away my vote then do that, she I remember how she hated "my art". It was burned into me. Perhaps this was foolishness, there's a great many more real issues to have with the democratic candidate.

I wonder how many gamers you have influenced in those years to be against Hilary. Maybe a minority of people im not sure. It seems as though there a lot of gamers who find it easier to hate a woman rather then a man, especially if their trying to "take your games away." I believe I had similar biases and likely still do, but as always things take time. Its not easy to self deprogram.

I've tried to make it through this article several times, but it just doesn't align with my reality. You can say something negative about me, I understand. I know your fanbase, and I know what trauma is. Your fans are some of the worst people and I understand that I'm just another one of them.

I'm not here to hate, but do understand, I can't agree with what you think here. I believe this is a very complicated issue and I have no stakes in it. You sound as though you or maybe your family or people you love have history here and I will not speak negative on those I do not know. But from the many videos I've watched, the news I consume each day, the history I read, the reality just doesn't match up.

I have to say, reading this, I feel like you have hatred in you. Maybe you're okay with that and I'm not trying to change your mind. I don't know you, but I just feel hatred here in these words here.

Im not asking for change or a response. I genuinely hope you have a good day and I just want you know that I have always enjoyed your content.

Thank you for all the good that you have given me in my life Adam Sessler.
